1. A unique intrepid adventure
Nature Heroes is a fun family programme with a difference.
Across half-term, Easter and Summer holidays, there will be a new quest to conquer. Help our heroes Pip, Bud & Sprout embark on an exciting mission in our wild landscape.
2. Your own superhero cape
How could you be a superhero without a cape?
Available to purchase throughout the year, online and at the Visitor Centre, our Nature Hero capes are a must-have for any planet-protectors.
From woodlands to wetlands, make your mark on the Wakehurst landscape as a proud member of our Nature Heroes squad.
Are you a member? Don’t forget you get 50% off our Nature Hero capes, as well as many other exciting benefits.
3. A new badge with every mission
Each new holiday brings a new themed mission and a beautiful fabric badge for your cape!
Starting with our Bird Buddy adventure, take part in any Nature Heroes trail, and gain a badge to wear with pride on your superhero cape.
How many will you collect?
4. An unmissable adventure every school holiday
If you’re stuck for family-friendly activities as each half-term and school holiday rolls around, Nature Heroes is a surefire way to get the children out of the house and connecting with nature.
Whatever the weather, we can guarantee an exciting trail, packed with activities to enrich young minds of all ages.
5. Feathered friends, fungi and foliage
Each Nature Heroes adventure focuses on a different area of the natural world. We’re helping young explorers to understand how each plant, animal and fungus plays a key role in sustaining our ecosystems.
With Wakehurst as a living laboratory, our landscape will be open for investigation. Your first mission: all things winged.
6. Join drop-in sessions and pre-bookable workshops
Alongside collecting badges, each Nature Heroes mission includes bespoke drop-in sessions and pre-bookable workshops to enhance your visit.
Join one of our drop-in sessions to get creative and bring home a memento of your Nature Heroes adventure.
Our pre-bookable workshops take place on various days during each holiday. Run by experts, these workshops introduce visitors to the importance of our natural world, through building a wormery or getting to know beautiful birdsong.
7. Learn practical skills each holiday
Nature Heroes is all about giving you real-world practical skills to help protect nature. Take your new knowledge back home or into the classroom, to impress your friends and family.
Get your green fingers ready!
8. Wakehurst is easy to get to and easy to explore
Wakehurst is right in the heart of the Sussex countryside. Just 25 minutes south of the M25 and 30 minutes north of Brighton, travel by car and parking is included in your entry ticket.
Haywards Heath is our closest station and hop on Route 272 to be dropped off right outside our door.
Travelling by bike or public transport? You’re eligible for a 50% discount on your entry ticket.
Once you’re here, pick up a handy map at our Visitor Centre, and the landscape is yours to explore!
9. An accessible adventure for all
We believe that everyone should have access to green spaces, so we’ve made our gardens accessible for everyone.
Children aged 16 and under go free, and 17-25-year-olds can enter the gardens for just £7.50. We also offer a £1 ticket for anyone receiving Universal or Pension Credit.
Once you’re in the gardens, you’ll find our pathways are buggy and wheelchair-friendly, and we have free mobility scooters available to hire.
10. Year-round seasonal stunners
Whether you’ve been coming to Wakehurst for years, or this will be your first visit, make sure you check out the unmissable seasonal highlights on your visit.
Nature Heroes will take you through bright springs, stunning summers, golden autumns and magical winters, with botanical vistas around each corner.
11. Play a part in Wakehurst’s wider mission
Most importantly, with each visit, you’re helping our wider mission of conserving the world’s plants, fungi and wildlife.
We'll be equipping budding ecologists with the knowledge, skills and passion they need to encourage biodiversity and protect our natural world.
We’re inspiring the young generation to become the conservation experts of the future. And it starts today.
