Internships
We offer several types of internships across our science departments, either based at Kew in London or Wakehurst in Sussex.
Our internships are designed to offer practical work experience and training to undergraduates and recent graduates.
Successful applicants will work alongside experienced botanists, mycologists and conservation scientists to contribute to projects designed to achieve the goals set out in Kew's Science Strategy.
This could include contributing to ongoing botanical research, policy or conservation activities, and many undertake an extended project using Kew’s diverse collections of plant specimens and associated data.
One-year science sandwich placements
Every year, 12-month paid sandwich placements are available for undergraduate students (on three or four year courses) who have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in biological sciences, bioinformatics or museum studies.
Undergraduate interns help to deliver Kew’s mission by participating in, and providing support to, the activities within the Science Directorate.
They receive training in key research skills from our leading experts so these placements offer valuable practical and professional experience.
Interns also have access to our world-renowned collections of plants and fungi, our library and research facilities.
Each intern contributes to the research activities of a specific team, aligned with the Kew Science Strategy 2021 – 2025.
During their year at Kew, students also undertake a research project which will form the basis of their end of year report.

Summer science internships
Each summer, we offer two-month paid internships are available for undergraduates and recent graduates between June and September.
Summer interns help to deliver Kew’s mission by participating in, and providing support to, the activities within the Science Directorate.
They receive training in key research skills from our leading experts so that they gain valuable practical and professional experience.
Interns also have access to our world-renowned collections of plants and fungi, its library and research facilities.
Each intern contributes to the research activities of a specific team, aligned with the Kew Science Strategy 2021 – 2025.

Science Project Internships
We offer Science Project Internships from time to time depending on availability of vacancies of different science research projects. The paid internship placement period varies from 2 to 12 months.
The interns help to deliver Kew's mission by participating in, and providing support to, the research activities within the Science Directorate.
They receive training in key research skills from our leading experts so these placements offer valuable practical and professional experience.
Interns also have access to our world-renowned collections of plants and fungi, our library and research facilities.
